Visual arts classes available for elementary, middle, and high school students.

Classes tend to fill up early, so be sure to register soon.
Classes are held at Columbia Center for the Arts. A healthy snack is provided daily.
Glass Mosaics
Taught by: Mia Howell
Come create a framed glass mosaic of your favorite animal, insect, or flower. During this class we will explore the basic techniques of glass mosaic. The final product will be a 5x7 framed glass mosaic to hang in a window at home.

Chalk Art Extravaganza
Taught by: Shelley Toon Hight
Get a head start on this year’s Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest. Learn design and application techniques that will make your chalk art stand out. Designs created during the class can be entered in the contest. Winners announced and prizes awarded at 6:00pm at Columbia Center for the Arts on July 6.

Four fun filled days celebrating DR SEUSS
Taught by: Kara Sisk
Come create a whimsical character of your own inspired by the brilliant characters of Dr. Seuss. Students will draw their character, paint them, and create a three-dimensional sculpture!
July 16 - 19

Innovative Performance Theatre Camp
Taught by: Rachel Harry and Phoenix Theatre
For serious, aspiring performers as well as students who just want a super-fun, creative outlet this summer. Students will discover and gain skills that will serve them on stage and throughout life in this innovative and exciting approach to performance. Plus HRVHS Phoenix Theatre Company members will act as workshop assistants to Rachel so students will have the opportunity to connect with other creative, artistic thespians! Performance Showcase for parents and friends on the last day of class.
July 16 - 19

- Ages: 4th through 8th grade

Let's go fly a KITE
Taught by: Kara Sisk
In this class students will decorate and construct 2 different types of bird kites along with a traditional diamond shaped kite. We will use paints and markers, nylon fabric and fiberglass rods. On the final day a portion of the class will be held at Waterfront Park so we can fly our new kites!

Theatre Explorations
Taught by: Sullivan Mackintosh
In this camp for 2nd-5th graders, we will explore different aspects of the theatre world, from voice and movement to backstage and design work. With a variety of hands-on activities and games, kids have an opportunity to discover new interests, both onstage and offstage.

Creative Art for 6 and 7 year olds
Taught by: Courtney Berens
Come join us for four fun days of creative and experiential art projects designed especially for 6 and 7 year olds. We’ll explore creative drawings, collages and watercolor painting. An open and fun environment will make this a memorable camp!
July 30 - Aug 2

Recycled Art Camp
Taught by: Cynthia Caudill
Create using recycled materials…the possibilities are endless! Each day students will create a functional art piece while learning about sustainability in our world. Students will have the opportunity to choice their projects that include: reusable sandwich and snack bags, found paper wallets, recycled framed chalkboards, sweater monsters..
July 30 - Aug 2

Drawing and Painting Trees
Taught by: Chloe Hight
Learn to look closely at the trees around you and draw what you see. Experiment with unique drawing tools, watercolor, Pitt pens and collage. A morning nature walk will inspire us each day!
August 6 - 9

Still Life Masterpieces
Taught by: Camille Hinman
Working with different media such as paint, pastel, glue & fabric, campers will produce several stunning still life pieces.
August 6 - 9
Monday-Thursday

- Limited to 15 students

Plein Air Painting
Taught by: Shelley Toon Hight
Enjoy a fun-filled day of painting trees, birds, bugs and buildings on the library lawn. Student work will be framed and displayed in the annual Plein Air Art Show at Columbia Center for the Arts for the month of September.
August 20
Monday
- 9:00am to 1:00pm
- Ages: 6 and older
- Limited to 12 students
- Fee: $50 (includes healthy lunch and frame)
