In 1993, Greg Mortenson became very ill when climbing Mt. K2 in the Himalayas, the world's second tallest mountain. As he recovered for seven weeks in the small Pakistani village of Korphe, he was so touched by the kindness of the people there, that he vowed to return to build their first school. This led to the founding of the Central Asia Institute, which has built 55 schools across rural Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Mortenson tells his story in "Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations… One School at a Time."

Since emerging on the Portland acoustic music scene in 1997, the four-woman band MISTY RIVER has earned an enviable reputation as one of the finest, most entertaining bands in the Pacific Northwest. Audiences have been captivated by the award winning quartet who support their beautiful blend of harmonic voices with unique combinations of guitars, fiddle, accordion, banjo, mandolin, ukulele and upright acoustic bass.

April Verch is a vibrant performer infusing pure energy into her fiddle playing and stepdancing. Best known for her fiddling, singing and stepdancing to tunes from her Ottawa Valley home in Canada, she has a wide musical palette of French Canadian, bluegrass and Appalachian styles.
April will be performing and giving workshops in both fiddle playing and stepdancing.
