The show features art that brightens the gloom in the dead of winter. According to gallery manager Catherine Kiewit, “The entire gallery will be filled with art that features some shade of red --- red ceramics, red fiber art, art that’s realistic, art that’s abstract, glass, jewelry, watercolors, oil paintings. You name it. If it comes in a shade of red, it qualifies to be in the show.”
She adds: “It’s amazing just how much diversity there can be in the color red.”
Participation in the show was open to more than 100 artists, including those involved with one or more of the shows in 2006, as well as those who show their work regularly at the gallery.
Kiewit suggests, “Be in for a big treat and for a very big dose of RED.”
The show’s sponsor, Ann Marie Jelderks, in memory of Sarah Jelderks, and the quarterly sponsors for the Center, Norman and Jeannette Mayer, make RED possible.
Due to the gallery’s annual winter closure for cleaning and inventory check, this month’s show will only be up for 16 days. Starting on Friday, January 12, with the artist reception, it runs through Sunday, January 28.
Columbia Art Gallery is housed in the Columbia Center for the Arts at 215 Cascade Ave., in Hood River, Oregon. Hours are Wed. through Sun. 11:00 am – 5:00 pm.
