A retrospective exhibit of Therese Albert’s oil paintings will be on display in the lobby of Columbia Center for the Arts beginning November 7th. The public is invited to attend the First Friday reception which will be held on the 7th from 6-8pm.

Therese Albert studied for 10 years at Les Beaux Arts De Paris; the school enjoys the reputation of training many of the great artists in Europe. Beaux Arts style was modeled on classical technique, preserving these idealized forms and passing the style on to future generations. Known for demanding classwork and setting the highest standards for education, the school attracted students from around the world.

The last ten years of her life, Albert lived as a resident of Trout Lake, Washington. Her paintings became inspired by the beauty of the Columbia Gorge and the serenity of rural life. The Columbia Art Gallery is proud to bring this retrospective exhibit to honor one of the Gallery’s most talented and successful artists.

Therese Albert’s varied body of work resonates with us because it is familiar. Whether she painted expansive landscapes, intimate moments captured in a figure’s expression or a play of light in an interior, her undertaking was to chronicle what is genuine in our existence. It is on viewers now to complete the turn, owning that art in Albert’s genre emerges from the experience she had in common with all of us. It is our turn now to witness the truth in the artist’s perception and to carry it on despite her absence.

The Albert retrospective will remain open for public viewing through November 30 during the Gallery’s business hours: Wednesday through Sunday 11am – 5pm.
