The Art of Movement
April 18
With Special Guests: A-WOL Dance Collective from Portland
An evening of dance that will blow you away!
The “Art of Movement” returns to Columbia Center for the Arts with two performances on Saturday, April 18. One at 4:00 pm and one at 7:30 pm
This year will feature Columbia Gorge Dance Academy’s Company Dancers performing works by choreographers Theresa Mason and Nancy Clement as well as new choreography by Susan Sorensen.
We are also pleased to welcome, Joy Dancer's Hip Hop Company and BBoyz Break Dancers. All dances were created by local dancers/chorographers from the Academy.
A-WOL Dance Collective
This year, Art of Movement is proud to present special guests A-WOL Dance Collective, a dance group from Portland known for its vigorous and "accessible" style of dance ... dance that's both hip and sophisticated ... dance that's bound to thrill!
A-WOL will be performing its latest work: 3-6-9: 9 choreographers, 6 minute pieces, 3 dancers at a time. Summoning talents from Portland, LA, Arizona, and San Francisco, each work brings with it the freshness of new minds working together.
Liberates Audiences!
A-WOL seeks to liberate audiences from traditional ideas of what it means to dance. They ignite a wonder and curiosity for what can happen when the human body takes flight.
A-WOL dancers challenge the scope of human capability, and give dancers something to dream for. And, believing that art should be accessible to everyone, A-WOL is not afraid to pluck their work from behind the theatre curtain, and pursue their audiences by popping up in a variety of unexpected locations. They’ve been seen hanging from the trees in the middle of the forest to dangling from the ceilings of Portland’s trendiest night clubs.
Hip yet sophisticated, A-WOL has a versatility of style that appeals to everyone.
