Poetry Out Loud
National Recitation Contest
February 18, 2010
Hood River High Student Competition
For the fifth year, Hood River Valley High School students are delighted to be part of the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest. The public is cordially invited to listen to the amazing works of these young people.
Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, students can choose from hundreds of poems on the Poetry Out Loud website to memorize and recite. Featured poems range from “Fire and Ice” by Robert Frost to “Dance Russe” by William Carlos Williams.
Students first must win their classroom contest; then learn another poem for the school contest. The winner of the state competition will travel to Washington DC in April - National Poetry Month - to compete with winners from all over the United States and its territories.
