The Columbia Arts Center is proud to announce a year-round Children’s Theatre program launched in September 2017. Our goals are to offer children the opportunity to participate as actors, crew members, writers, set designers, costumers, make-up artists, directors, etc.; to engage with the schools to encourage new set designers, actors, directors, playwrights; to reach out to the general population to be more involved in our Children’s Theatre community; and to bring in children-focused Theatre from outside the area to inspire and entertain audiences in our community.
We happily introduce Sullivan Mackintosh as our Acting Artistic Director, sponsored by Maureen Higgins & Sakura Ridge, for Children’s Theatre.
The program offers Theatre experiences in three areas:
- Season of Children’s Plays
A full season of three children’s plays—running from Septermber to July. Gorge-area kids (and some adults) will be invited to audition for acting roles and will also be able to help with backstage roles. Volunteers to help with sets, make-up, costumes, production, AV-tech, etc. are welcome to let us know by emailing our Events Manager here.
- Summer Theatre Workshops for Kids
Theatre workshops are available this summer for kids of all ages. 2018 workshops and registration information here.
- Teen Apprenticeship, underwritten by Dick & Pat Schmuck
The 2018-19 CCA Children’s Theatre Teen Apprenticeship is a pilot program that provides theatrical training for teens in the Columbia Gorge. Its purpose is to create a supportive ensemble of skilled, professional teen collaborators who are knowledgeable in a variety of theatrical disciplines, and who are ready to take on leadership roles in the CCA Children’s Theatre program and in other theatre environments. The program prepares students for future rigorous training in a college or conservatory setting, while allowing them to explore personal interests in theatre and related fields. Get Teen Apprentice Application here.
- In-School Program
Beginning in the 2018-19 season, CCA Children’s Theatre will offer free in-school theatre activities to K-12 schools in the Gorge. For more information, please contact Kerry Cobb at email@example.com.
We are hosting an informational meeting on volunteer opportunities specific to Children’s Theatre on May 3, 2018.
