Solve the BIG issues while they are still small – tips for getting the most out of your camera and sketchbook

Bill Hook, an internationally recognized and awarded artist known for his beautiful watercolors of the industrial landscape is a featured artist in the current Industrial Art Exhibit at the Columbia Center for the Arts.

Bill will offer a one day class on how he uses his camera and sketchbook to record what he sees and how he transforms that to create powerful and compelling images. His tips on the use of light, values and composition apply to all aspects of drawing and painting at all skill levels. The sketchbook is where you store your inspiration and ideas… or as Bill says “where he plans his successes and hides his failures… “


$75 per person

Suggested supply list, no need to go out and buy stuff, just bring what you have!

-Digital camera or phone – make sure it is fully charged (a spare battery is always handy to have)

-Have some pictures you like on the camera or small prints would be fine as well.

-A good quality sketchbook –  I like a 6”x9” or 9”x12” Aquabee Super Deluxe or what you usually use.

-A selection of pencils –  #2, HB, 2B and a sharpener  or a .7mm mechanical pencil.

-Small straight edge (6”) or a triangle

-Eraser – white vinyl and kneaded rubber

– A small watercolor set w/ palette & water container*

*If you are more comfortable with colored pencils or pastels bring them instead of watercolor.

-A couple of good brushes – #6 or #7 round with a sharp point and full body
