Columbia Center of the Arts is pleased to bring GIFTED A Mills Family Art Auction to the CCA Gallery.

This beautiful show features art from the collection of the Kate and Jack Mills family which was generously ‘gifted’ to Columbia Arts.

This exhibition and auction will be running December 2-18, 2022 with a public opening reception for the First Friday, December 2, from 5:30 to 8:00PM.

What a rare opportunity the Mills family has given to Columbia Arts to offer these incredible works of art to the community. Over one-hundred pieces of art spanning 100 years will be featured in the gallery and as a preview in our online store. We are sure you’ll find something that you’ll want hanging on your wall! These works represent a vast array of art styles, mediums, sizes, prices and interests.

You’ll also find some pieces of memorabilia and jewelry for sale as well.

Join everyone on Dec. 2nd when the silent auction will begin at 6pm. You’ll find a beautiful piece by Todd Smith who showed his work for many years at Columbia Arts. Other familiar artists are Sally Bills Bailey and Peggy Dills whose works had also been shown in the gallery over the years.

The world class sculptor, Roxanne Swentzell is a Native American clay & bronze sculptor. Her sculpture of mother and child is captivating. You’ll also find artwork by Eugene Bennett, H.F. Wentz and Rafa Fernandez.

You may pay for and take home your new art that evening or arrange for pick-up at a later time.

Come and celebrate Kate and Jack Mills and their family for their generous spirit of giving. Columbia Arts is looking forward to sharing a special evening of art, wine, music and memories. Please come and join us.

During the show, the Gallery is Open Thursday – Sunday from 11am – 5PM

About Kate and Jack Mills

Kate was the only child of H.L. and Constance Pittock Leadbetter. Kate was born in Portland and educated at Catlin Gabel School and Stanford University. Kate married Jack Mills in 1952. The family moved to Parkdale in the mid 70’s along with seven horses, an ill-tempered burro, Bantam chickens and Muscovy ducks, barn cats and a dog. Along with her love of animals and the outdoors, Kate relished a soul stirring play, whether at CAST in Hood River, Ashland or Broadway. Kate was a big supporter of Columbia Art Gallery and CAST in their formative days. Kate never missed a First Friday opening at Columbia Arts once they moved into their new ‘digs’ on Cascade Avenue or Opening Night at a CAST performance.

Mills and his wife, Kate, moved to Parkdale in the mid-1970s after his nearly 20-year career in banking in Portland, looking for a more relaxed way of life. They built a house on their 250 acres and bought the Mt. Hood Country Store, which they soon restored, retaining a rustic feel. Jack continued his active community involvement he had practiced in the preceding 15 or 20 years in Portland, which had included stints as officer on the boards or committees of at least 20 differentorganizations, including the American Red Cross Oregon Trail Chapter, Governor’s Commission on Youth, United Way Fund Campaign, Urban League of Greater Portland, Northwest Outward Bound School, and many others. Jack was president of the Portland Art Museum, commissioner of Oregon Arts Commission and director of Oregon Arts Foundation. After moving to Parkdale at age 45, he served on the board of Maryhill Museum of Fine Arts and as President of Friends of Timberline.
