Portland Piano International’s Rising Stars are young, up-and-coming pianists who have the potential to become internationally known performers. Selected by Artistic Director Arnaldo Cohen, the young artists perform several times at various locations across the country, including performances in Oregon with this special appearance on the CCA stage.

Italian  pianist,  Filippo  Gorini,  is  praised  for  his  “rare  intellect,  temperament…and  vivid  imagination”.  In  2015,  he  received  both  the  first  and  audience  prizes  at  the  Telekom  Beethoven  Competition  Bonn,  for  his  performances  of  works  by  Schubert,  Beethoven,  Schönberg,  Bartok  and  Thomas  Adès.In  summer  2018,  Filippo  made  his  debut  at  Rheingau  Festival  and  Festspiele  MecklenburgVorpommern,  alongside  appearances  at  Muse  Salentine  in  Italy,  and  Plush  Festival  in  Dorset,  UK.

Previous  awards  and  competition  success  includes  the  2017  Beethoven-Ring  prize  from  the  Citizens  for  Beethoven  Association  in  Bonn,  first  prize  at  the  Neuhaus  Competition  in  Moscow,  and  prize  of  the  Young  Euro  Classics  Festival  in  Berlin.Filippo’s  debut  disc  of  The  Diabelli  Variations  was  released  last  year  on  Alpha  Classics  and  has  received  outstanding  reviews  including  5-star  ratings  from  The  Guardian,  Le  Monde,  BBC,  as  well  as  a  Diapason  D’or.  Filippo  continues  his  studies  with  Maria  Grazia  Bellocchio  and  PavelGililov  at  the  Mozarteum  University  in  Salzburg,  as  well  as  receiving  mentorship  from  Alfred  Brendel.

He  begins  his  2018/19  season  at  the  IMS  Prussia  Cove  Open  Chamber  Music  series,  joining  Steven  Isserlis,  whom  he  performed  with  at  the  Chamber  Music  Connects  the  World  at  Kronberg  Academy  in  2016.  Recital  highlights  this  season  include  performances  at  Amici  Della  Musica  in  Florence,Società  dei  Concerti  in  Trieste,  Edesche  Concertzaal,  Munich  Herkulessaal,  Slovak  Philharmonic,  Arts  et  Lettres  in  Vevey  and  Tonhalle  Zürich.  Filippo  also  heads  to  the  US  in  February  where  he  makes  his  debut  at  the  Vancouver  Recital  Series  and  Meany  Center  for  the  Performing  Arts  in  Seattle.

Later  in  the  season  he  joins  Symfonieorkest  Vlaanderen  on  their  UK  tour  performing  Beethoven’s  Piano  Concerto  No.  3,  as  well  as  making  his  debut  with  the  Giuseppe  Verdi  Symphony  Orchestra  of  Milan  and  Claus  Peter  Flor,for  performances  of  Brahms  Piano  Concerto  No.2  across  Italy.Filippo’s  recent  concert  appearances  in  Europe  have  drawn  unanimous  acclaim  on  prestigious  stages  such  as  the  Konzerthaus  Berlin,  Elbphilharmonie  Hamburg,  Leipzig  Gewandhaus,  Laeiszhalle  Hamburg,  Die  Glocke  Bremen,  Great  Hall  of  the  Moscow  Conservatory,  Beethovenhaus  Bonn,  and  Sale  Apollinee  at  Teatro  La  Fenice.  In  May  2018  Filippo  received  recognition  for  the  “Una  vita  per  la  musica  -Giovani”,  annually  awarded  by  La  Fenice  in  Venice.
