Maija Yasui   

Maija Annala Yasui was born in Hood River in 1950 into an extended family of Finns. She returned after time away to begin farming and a family with her husband. Maija pens a regular column for the Hood River News and several of her short stories are included in Aakki Daaki to Zoomorphic, a book about the Hood River Valley. In addition to sharing stories of the Japanese history in the Gorge (her husband, Flip Yasui’s, ancestry), she now shares the stories of the rich Finnish and Japanese history here in the Gorge.
