about the artist
Artist Bio:
Sorcha Meek is an award-winning contemporary artist and art educator who has been showing her work regionally, nationally and internationally for over 25 years. Her vibrant, earthy, textured surfaces contain imagery and symbolism to convey ideas and concepts about humanity.
Sorcha recently received the ‘Juror’s Choice Award’ (Oregon Art Educator’s juried exhibition) at Maryhill Museum of Art and has been featured in numerous publications such as: 1859 Oregon’s Magazine, The Sacramento Bee, Artisan Northwest Magazine, Oregon Humanities Magazine.
After working along-side other contemporary artists at the Graphic Print Studio in Dublin, Ireland, Sorcha moved to Hood River and co-founded the Alpinee Art Studio where she taught adult printmaking classes and workshops. She then went on to open Solo Studio and Gallery. She is currently the Assistant Director and head of the art dept. at New Vision School.
Sorcha studied both classical and conceptual painting and drawing at the Art Institute of Florence, Italy. Meek also has a Master’s degree in Education. Her work is represented by the Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery.
