The Beauty of Clay

Hands of young potterCurator: Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield
Exhibition: March 1-April 2

We shape clay into a pot, but it is the emptiness inside that holds whatever we want.” Lao Tzo

This show of 3-d art will feature artists from Oregon and Washington. Clay of all types will be on display including earthenware, stoneware, and porcelain.

The use of clay to make vessels goes back as far at 10,000 BC. Today clay is used to make everything from tiles to sculptures, mugs to large art pieces. There are as many firing and glazing techniques as there are clay artists, and this show will demonstrate how clay can inspire and excite artists.

Yvonne Pepin-Wakefield is a Pacific Northwest artist who owns studios in Tieton Washington and The Dalles Oregon. She has exhibited nationally and internationally and her work is in private collections throughout the world.

Yvonne is recognized for her work as an arts educator and is the recipient of a Fulbright Memorial Fellowship and Robert Rauschenberg, Power of Art scholarship. She has taught art on three continents, to every age and ability and received international and national awards for her art education practices.
