2021 Summer Camp Experiences

COVID-19: Columbia Center for the Arts will have protocols in place to reduce the potential transmission of the COVID virus during camps. We cannot guarantee that these protocols will eliminate the risk in its entirety. Families that elect to participate in summer camps do so with understanding that this risk exists.

Summer Camp Program for CCA 2021 – Logistics

$300/week – includes supplies.
Please bring your own lunch & snacks.

Our camps are simultaneously offered in Hood River and The Dalles, be sure to choose the location that is best for you.

Hood River camps run from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, The Dalles Art Center camps run from 9:00 am- 4:30 pm.

If you’d like to request a scholarship, or can support students by contributing to a scholarship fund, please email (amy.gray@hoodriver.k12.or.us). We have limited scholarships and aim to help as many families as possible, so please select this option if you require financial help in order to take a class and consider donating to this great cause.

Artapalooza

July 5th – 9th

Take the plunge into art camps with this first week of our summer camp series. Led by a crew of artists in theater, drumming, drawing, painting and movement arts, we will introduce 8-10 year-olds to all kinds of new and creative experiences. A playful introduction to theater, music, dance and movement creates imaginative, collaborative, lively and engaging group fun. And our Painting and drawing offerings supports students in creating individual works of art. This camp proves magic lives in the group art experience, and supports students as they find their own inner artist! (Click here for artist bios.)

Artapalooza

5 al 9 de julio: Deb Currier, Tim Snyder, Stephanie Delgado y Amy Gray (Grados 2 y 3)

9:00 A.M. – 3:00 P.M. en Hood River

Empieza con esta primera semana de nuestra serie de campamentos de verano. Dirigidos por un equipo de artistas de teatro, percusión, dibujo, pintura y artes del movimiento, presentaremos todo tipo de experiencias nuevas y creativas. A través de una introducción al teatro, la música, la danza y el movimiento los estudiantes crean una experiencia grupal imaginativa, colaborativa, animada y atractiva. Y nuestras actividades  de pintura y dibujo ayudan a los estudiantes a crear obras de arte individuales. ¡Este campamento demuestra que la magia vive en la experiencia de arte en grupo y apoya a los estudiantes mientras encuentran su propias fuerzas de artista.

Rhythm and Blues, Drums and Paintings

Tim Snyder, Molly Holmlund (2nd and 3rd grade)
9:00a – 3:00p in Hood River / 9:00a – 4:30p The Dalles

July 12th – 16th

Join artists Molly Holmlund and Tim Snyder for a week of drumming, drawing, watercolor and music. In this five day camp learners will draw and experiment with watercolor exploring color through rhythms to make for a fun and lively experience. Students will use drumsticks, bucket drums, pencils, watercolor and other multimedia. An introduction to visual thinking strategies helps campers respond to artworks by professional artists and encourages imagination and sense of wonder. This creative art-lovers camp will bring learners home ready to dance into dreamland.

Ritmo y blues, tambores y pinturas

12 al 16 de julio: Tim Snyder, Molly Holmlund (Grados 2 y 3)

9:00 A.M. – 3: 00 P.M. en Hood River / 9:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. en The Dalles

Únase a los artistas Molly Holmlund y Tim Snyder durante una semana de percusión, dibujo, acuarela y música. En este campamento de cinco días, los alumnos dibujarán y experimentarán con la acuarela explorando el color a través de ritmos para crear una experiencia divertida. Los alumnos usarán baquetas, tambores, lápices, acuarelas y otros multimedia. Una introducción a las estrategias de pensamiento visual ayuda a los campistas a que examinen las obras de arte de artistas profesionales y fomenta la imaginación y el sentido de la maravilla. Stitch and Measure, Trash to Treasure

Jess Graff & Lise Larsen (4th and 5th grade)
9:00a – 3:00p in Hood River / 9:00a – 4:30p The Dalles

July 19th – 23rd

Join mixed-media artist and educator Jess Graff and Art Teacher Lise Larsen for a 5 day art camp of creativity and connection. Participants will create objects out of recycled objects, learn sewing skills, use hand tools and explore materials such as fabric, plastic, cardboards, metal, fibers, and other reusable items; all with ample help from adults. Participants will play and experiment with dozens of new materials to build their own wearable treasures, as well as collaborate to create a group artwork for the art center. With plenty of math and science for good measure, this camp will bring out the inner fashion designer, builder, and artist.

Coser y medir, basura como tesoro

19 al 23 de julio: Marwan Nahle y Jess Graff (Grados 4 y 5)

9: 00 A.M. – 3: 00 P.M. en Hood River / 9:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M. en The Dalles

Únase al artista multimedia internacional Marwan Nahle y al artista y educador de multimedia Jess Graff para un campamento de arte de 5 días de creatividad y conexión. Los participantes crearán un mural con objetos reciclados, aprenderán habilidades de costura, usarán herramientas manuales y explorarán materiales como tela, plástico, cartón, metal, fibras y otros artículos reutilizables; todo con amplia ayuda de los adultos. Los participantes jugarán y experimentaran con docenas de nuevos materiales para construir sus propios tesoros portátiles, además de colaborar para crear un mural grupal para el centro de arte. Con un montón de matemáticas y ciencias en buena medida, este campamento fomentará al diseñador de moda, constructor y artista interior.

Builders and Buckets

9:00a – 3:00p in Hood River / 9:00a – 4:30p The Dalles

July 26th – 30th

Join artists Rod Stuart, Peggy Wooten and Tim Snyder for a week of woodworking, mosaic tiling, tesselation making, bucket drumming and all around fun! Campers will build wooden creatures to tile and paint, learn about mosaics and the art of tiling. Make music and design their instrument. This camp will set kids up to be great helpers with your next remodel!

Constructores y Cubetas

26 al 30 de julio: Peggy Wooten & Rod Stuart lunes / martes / miércoles, Tim Snyder el jueves / viernes (cuarto y quinto grado)

¡Únase a los artistas Rod Stuart, Peggy Wooten y Tim Snyder durante una semana de trabajo en madera, mosaico de mosaicos, fabricación de teselados, tambor de cubetas y diversión en general! Los alumnos construirán pedazos de madera para revestir y pintar, aprenderán sobre mosaicos y el arte del azulejo. Hacer música y diseñar su instrumento. ¡Este campamento preparará a los niños para que sean grandes ayudantes en su próxima remodelación!

Fabulous Fiber Arts

Erin Erickson, Amy Gray, Stephanie Delgado (4th and 5th grade)
9:00a – 3:00p in Hood River / 9:00a – 4:30p The Dalles

Aug 2nd – 6th

Join artists Stephanie Delgado, Erin Erickson and Amy Gray for a week of multi-media and design projects. In this five day camp learners will stitch, knot, sew, dye and design using fibers, thread, yarn and a plethora of fabrics. We’ll augment and embroider on photographs, use embroidery hoops, child safe needles, classroom looms and more. For kids that are interested in fashion, design and handicrafts this camp will be a fantastic introduction to new tools and techniques.

Únase a las artistas Stephanie Delgado, Erin Erickson y Amy Gray durante una semana de proyectos multimedia y de diseño. En este campamento de cinco días, los estudiantes coserán, teñirán y diseñarán utilizando fibras, hilo, estambre y una muchas telas. Ampliaremos y bordaremos fotografías, usaremos aros de bordado, agujas seguras para niños, telares para el salón y más. Para los niños interesados en las modas, el diseño y la artesanía, este campamento será una buena introducción a nuevas herramientas y técnicas.

Wild Things, Come and Play!

Aug 9th – 13th

Join Deb Currier and Amy Jarvis for a week of theatre games and creative activities designed to spark imagination, teach fun acting/character techniques, and ultimately create our very own drama showcase! Inspired by Maurice Sendak’s classic, Where the Wild Things Are, we’ll explore acting, designing, dramatic writing and performing while we bring our own Wild Thing characters to life!

Únase a Deb Currier y sus amigos durante una semana de juegos de teatro y actividades creativas diseñadas para despertar la imaginación, enseñar técnicas divertidas de actuación / personajes y, en última instancia, crear nuestro propio drama. Inspirados por el clásico de Maurice Sendak, “Where the Wild Things Are”, exploramos la actuación, el diseño, la escritura dramática y la interpretación mientras damos vida a nuestros propios personajes.
