Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble featuring Edna Vazquez

February 17, 7pm
Ticket Info Below

Portland’s most daring jazz ensemble teams up with Mexican-American singer-songwriter Edna Vazquez for a performance in our Theatre. Presented in partnership with PDX Jazz, this project furthers the PJCE’s commitment to inclusive, innovative music.

Vazquez’s journey as an artist has taken her from her foundations in traditional Mexican folk music to her most recent release, Sola Soy, which combines jazz and rock with Mexican music for a unique Portland sound. Singing original songs in both English and Spanish, she makes deep connections with audiences, as her passionate mission for spreading a message of love and positivity crosses cultural barriers. This partnership is a realization of Vazquez’s musical interests and an opportunity for Oregon audiences to hear an original artist perform with one of the region’s most adventurous ensembles.

Tickets: $20 Adults, $15 Seniors/Students/Military. Tickets are available here or in the Gallery at 215 Cascade Avenue in Hood River. Tickets are non-refundable.

This performance is generously funded by grants through Oregon Cultural Trust and The Salvador Fund.

The Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble, called a “cultural powerhouse” by Tom D’Antoni of Oregon Music News, is the only nonprofit organization in Oregon dedicated exclusively to performing original music by Oregon composers. PJCE has made its mark on Portland’s jazz community by offering a refreshing and innovative approach to programming and by making deep connections across Portland’s cultural community.

Ensemble personnel for the evening are Lee Elderton, Melissa Carroll, Rob Davis, and Mieke Bruggeman, saxophones; Noah Simpson, Douglas Detrick, trumpet; Lars Campbell and Denzel Mendoza, trombones; Ryan Meagher, guitar; Jasnam Daya Singh, piano; Andrew Jones, bass; and Jonas Oglesbee, drums.
